New Version of the Winlink for Dummies book is out

Submitted by N7UWX on Sat, 2008-03-29 10:57.

I have finished the new version of the Winlink for Dummies book and posted it on the club page thanks to the help of Ted AC7II.
Special thanks to Bud N0IA who wrote the original assignments.

It covers all NEW lessons for installation and the procedures for getting Winlink 2000 up and running!

Winlink 2000 is a packet radio program that makes an easy interface for sending email messages over your radio.
A very handy resource for Emergency Communications

This book in based on the Yahoo group… http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LOADING_WL2K_USER_PROGRAMS/
The book asks that you join this group and step through the different assignments.
If you join the group there will be a mentor to help you through the assignments.

Basically Winlink 2000 lets you create an email in Microsoft Outlook Express (or your favorite email program), click send and a program called Paklink MP talks to your TNC witch connects to your local RMS (Radio Message server) witch forwards it onto the internet.

March Club Meeting

Submitted by kd7yko on Sat, 2008-03-08 09:21.

A week and a few days ago I was enjoying the warm weather and thought we might be able to vent a little cabin fever with a Radio Direction Finding activity (locally called a bunny hunti), but the snow last weekend dampened my hopes. Monday the forecast for club meeting weekend was cold and snow, and the weather man hasn't varied his position as we have drawn closer to the weekend.

This morning I stepped outside and thought brrr, let's stay inside.

So, bring your grab and go kits!

What is a grab and go kit? Not sure if you have one? What would you grab if there had been some kind of emergency this morning and requests were being made for amateur radio operators. What would you bring? Let's start with that this morning.

Looking for ideas on where to go from there? There are lots of ideas and resources all over the Internet, but in an interest of building a kit core that will sync with other hams in the valley who are specializing in emergency preparedness, start with the resources on the Northern Utah ARES site, especially the Grab-n-Go Kit.
