Radio check following BARC net. If you are in the cache valley area you will need to have all of your frequencies in your radio programmed by this night so you can test it out. There will be hams acting as the repeaters that are out of this valley and will be able to tell if you have the right frequency and TONE set for your radio.  If you live out of cache valley, use another radio (can be a handheld) to do this on your own.

LOTOJA Amateur Radio Operators Bible

This document contains important information about the event and provides links to all relevant documents, assignments, and resources. Everyone in your vehicle should read this document.

For New Volunteers

Radio Operators who help with LOTOJA in mobile neutral support positions require the following equipment.

  • Dual Band mobile radio (2 meter/70 cm) with external vehicle antenna capable of 25watts or more power.
  • handheld 2 meter radio (or mobile or available VFO on a dual receive mobile used for above) for car-2-car communications.
  • APRS tracker (2 meter with >5 watts output)
  • ANSI reflective vest
  • Yellow flashing light

Please Note: The LOTOJA Hams team does have some equipment to lend.  Let us know if you need some equipment and we will do our best to equip you with the needed equipment.  Because of the mountainous terrain along the race route, a handheld will not cut it for communications to repeaters in many locations.  A handheld does work well for Car-2-Car communications.
