Club Meeting - April 13th
Submitted by KE7IK on Sat, 2013-03-30 20:47Introduction to HSMM Mesh Networking
Date: April 13, 2013
Time: 10 AM
Location: Cache County Sheriff's Complex 3rd Floor, 1225 W 200 N, Logan
Kevin Reeve N7RXE and Tom Baldwin KD7TRN, will be giving us a presentation on HSMM Mesh Networking. HSMM stands for High-Speed Multimedia Radio and the implementation of wireless data networks over amateur radio frequencies using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware such as 802.11 access points provides a communications network made up of radio nodes organized in a mesh topology. Mesh networking (topology) is a type of networking where each node must not only capture and disseminate its own data, but also serve as a relay for other nodes, that is, it must collaborate to propagate the data in the network. Plan to attend Kevin's presentation to see how this technology can apply to emergency communications.
See you there. As always, visiting with friends and refreshments after the meeting.

Club Meeting - February 9, 2013
Submitted by KE7IK on Tue, 2013-02-05 22:16Introduction to IRLP
Date: February 9, 2013
Time: 10 AM
Location: Cache County Sheriff's Complex 3rd Floor, 1225 W 200 N, Logan
Our meeting topic is on IRLP. Craig Davidson K1BDX, will be giving us a presentation on how IRLP works. IRLP which is short for Internet Radio Linking Project, links amateur radio stations around the world by using Voice over IP (VoIP). Each IRLP gateway consists of a dedicated computer running custom software that is connected to both a radio and the Internet. This arrangement forms what is known as an IRLP Node.
Craig is originally from Minneapolis and moved to Houston in 1975 where he earned an electrical engineering degree in 1984 with special emphasis on microprocessors and electromagnetics. He didn't know it back then but that turned out to be the perfect preparation for understanding today's digital radios.
He became a Ham Radio operator in 1977 and put up his own two meter repeater with autopatch on a 400 foot tall building in 1981 using a digital repeater controller that he designed and built using parts donated by Texas Instruments.
Craig bumped into David Cameron, the inventor of IRLP, at the Dayton Ham Convention in 2007 and have been involved with IRLP ever since.
He is also interested in solar powered mountain top cross-band repeaters. Here is a link to the repeater he walked up the mountain in Big Bend National Park for the Big Bend Ultra Run.
See you there. As always, visiting with friends and refreshments after the meeting.

Club Meeting - November 2012
Submitted by KE7IK on Wed, 2012-10-31 21:46Elections and How about Ten Meters
Date: November 10, 2012
Time: 10 AM
Location: Cache County Sheriff's Complex 3rd Floor, 1225 W 200 N, Logan
Elections will be held for BARC officers and board members for next year.
Our meeting topic is on the 10 meters. The 10 meter band (28.0-29.7 MHz, with Technician portion 28.0-28.5 MHz) is available to all hams. This means that the Technician Class license holders have access to an HF band where you can talk around the world when propagation is good. It offers superb long distance contacts (DX) even on very low power (QRP). An antenna for ten meters is smaller and easier to build than for any other HF ham radio bands. In other words, here is a band on which you are likely to get the "biggest bang for the buck" than on any other HF band. The solar cycle number 24 will peak next year and 10 meters should be radioactive through mid-2014. Sporadic-E propagation can also bring the band alive during certain times of the year.
Join us for a discussion about 10 meters, gear needed, simple antennas to build, and we’ll have a HF rig setup on 10 meters.
See you there. As always, visiting with friends and refreshments after the meeting.

Date: September 6th
Time: 6:00 PM
Location: 360 East 450 North, Millville (Providence South Stake Center Pavilion)
Everyone is invited to this social. You don’t have to be a member of BARC to attend this social. This is a way to meet in person those voices you have talked to on the radio and have an eye-ball QSO.
Just bring a food item to share with the group. The club will provide drinks and shredded barbecue chicken and beef sandwiches.
** Please bring your own eating utensils, plate, and cup. **
Hope to see you all there.
After the social at about 7 PM, there will be a short LOTOJA meeting for last minute updates and to hand out the LOTOJA packets to those who are supporting LOTOJA on September 8th.
