2006 SKYWARN Recognition Day

2006 SKYWARN Recognition Day (SRD) will be December 2, 2006 (0000 - 2400 UTC.) (That's 5:00PM Dec 1st - 5:00PM Dec 2nd local time.)

There isn't a dot on the map for a participating NWS Station for Utah, but that doesn't mean you can't participate. The idea is that some Amateur Radio operators will go to their local NWS office and staff a SRD station (for example PARC is doing this up North). From the station their goal is to make as many QSO's as they can in the 24 hour period with amateur radio operators and other SRD stations at NWS offices.

So your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to tune into the various bands and exchange SRD QSO information with as many National Weather Service Stations as possible on the 80, 40, 20, 15, 10, 6, and 2 meter bands plus the 70 centimeter band using phone, PSK-31, RTTY, packet, and CW. IRLP and Echolink contacts are also encouraged. The SRD exchange is your call sign, signal report, QTH, and a one or two word description of the weather occurring at your site ("sunny", "partly cloudy", "windy", etc.).

About SKYWARN Recognition Day:

SKYWARN Recognition Day was developed in 1999 by the National Weather Service and the American Radio Relay League. It celebrates the contributions that volunteer SKYWARN radio operators make to the National Weather Service. During the day SKYWARN operators visit NWS offices and contact other radio operators across the world.
